World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) takes place on June 15th every year.

Elder abuse is defined as "a single or repeated act or lack of appropriate action occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person or violates their human and civil rights" (World Health Organisation 2002).

As highlighted by the ‘ International Society of Mens Health ’ (ISMH) (2010), coupled with the fact that men are typically reluctant to seek medical treatment, it is imperative to define the future of men’s health, particularly of the aging male. In 2004, the Mens Health Forum in Ireland published a report which described how men in Ireland are disadvantaged in terms of health by virtue of their gender.
