This phase of the program is open to inpatients and participants who attend two days a week through the Wellness and Recovery Service. Inpatients attend a seven day programme. The programme timetable incorporates specific groups in conjunction with the Activities Programme, Rise Groups and the Twilight Club organized each evening.
All participants are encouraged to attend groups and to choose at least two additional activities each day. This is a means of engaging in behavioural activation. It also provides a structure for working on personal goals that are aimed at beginning to tackle and change factors that are maintaining depression.
Embracing Recovery is an open revolving programme of four weeks duration. Participants may extend that if it is deemed therapeutically beneficial. The programme is designed so that a participant can join at any point of the cycle. The title of each group indicates an underlying theme for that group. Group content each week will focus on exploring the theme from different perspectives or introducing underlying components inherent within them.
We have found that groups despite being a little intimidating initially can be a very helpful means of engaging and learning about your experience of depression. There is a difference between expertise and experience. While we endeavour to provide and impart as much expertise as possible we believe that shared experience is just as important and should never be underestimated.
