Until fairly recently, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) was viewed as a childhood disorder in which the core symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and attention difficulties were thought to disappear during adolescence and adulthood. However, studies that have looked at the long-term outcome of childhood ADHD, suggest the disorder does persist into adulthood.
It is now generally agreed that about two thirds of children with ADHD continue to have some core symptoms of the disorder in adulthood, as well as experiencing substantial associated psychological and social difficulties.
